Dirty Hearts
If I were to try to pin down the fundamentals of my aesthetic sense, I could say it is Bauhaus meets Wabi-Sabi with a bit of Punk thrown into the mix. Bauhaus for clarity and sophisticated grace, wabi-sabi for the intimacy, natural gestures, and focus on process , and punk for the raw dirty outrageous gutsiness of being alive.
This mix also describes the how I feel about the human heart, which is an impossible combination of dirt and gorgeousness. These brush drawings are meditations on the human heart. Many of them have a spot of red sealing wax in them, which stands for the official acknowledgement that this heart is, indeed, mine.
Note on dirt: I live in an area of the country where the word "dirt" always goes along with the word "rich." Things grow in it. Flowers bloom out of it.
