Artists spend an astonishing amount of time just staring at stuff, trying to see it really well. It can be quite hard to see past the surface delights, the seductions of color and mark, and into the structure of the whole painting. Mind you, I intend my work to be seductively beautiful in the end, but I want there to be an iron fist under the velvet glove. I want my work to ravish you with the loveliness of a Bellini (Venetian play of color and light) and the spacial power punch of a Richard Serra.
